"Red Heart the Ticker is the name of the indie-folk duo I Robin MacArthur co-lead with my husband Tyler Gibbons. Our two albums of original music, "For the Wicked" and "Oh My! Mountains Below," are infused with the landscape of northern New England and peruse themes of memory, place, belonging, not belonging, love, and loss, through song. We have performed on "A Prairie Home Companion," toured nationally, done ridiculously frightening things like radio interviews, taught songwriting workshops around the country, and been the grateful recipients of a Creation Grant from the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment of the Arts (see "On the Mountains High").
Red Heart the Ticker are giving you a copy of their lovely album: oh my! mountains below:
"We began making "Oh My! Mountains Below" right after the death of my
grandmother and recorded it during a few weeks of winter in the living room of
my grandmother's farmhouse (where she had died). It snowed every day we recorded
and we ended up house-bound with our friends from London who had come to record
with us. It was a dreamy time during those snowstorms, staying up late and
waking early and sometime, about half-way through the recording session, I
discovered I was pregnant with our firstborn (now four). And so the album, which
had begun as an elegy and a reflection on death became about re-birth and
renewal, too. The songs changed at that point, as did the production. We hope
that sense of both darkness and light comes through on the recording."
If you would like to enter in the drawing of this album just leave a comment here before the end of the 23'th and you are with. Remember to put with your e-mail address so i can get in touch with you if you turn out to be the lucky one.
